Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the QinetiQ Australia WHS arrangements and to help ensure their appropriate and effective implementation across Australia.
  • Define and oversee the QinetiQ Australia Safety Management System and to drive its development in accordance with legislation, QinetiQ Group requirements and best practice.
  • Effectively implement the QinetiQ 3-lines of assurance model as defined by Group for WHS
  • Present a full and accurate picture of QinetiQ Australia WHS performance for senior management review and action.
  • Engage and consult with people at all levels in order to support an open, inclusive, positive WHS culture which will identify improvements, help maintain legal compliance and minimise the risks to which QinetiQ, its staff and others are exposed through our activities
  • Provides oversight and guidance for the training and development of those in critical safety roles
  • Provides specialist WHS advice and support to all levels within the QinetiQ Australia organisation
  • Reviews of safety performance across QinetiQ Australia including audits and major incidents
  • Continuously improve systems to manage and monitor Health & Safety Performance and monitor compliance
  • Engages with Group Safety programs and activities, representing WHS requirements in Australia

Job Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent nationally recognised professional qualification and significant experience in WHS
  • Under certain circumstances another appropriate qualification with a significant depth of experience may be acceptable in lieu of a degree
  • Expert knowledge and experience in the implementation of WHS regulations across multiple jurisdictions
  • High knowledge and demonstrable experience in health and safety management
  • Experience of audit and incident management processes and systems
  • Ability to lead and manage within a matrix organisation, integrating and delivering best effect to all parts of the business as required
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others in a team to achieve shared objectives
  • Technical background and enquiring mind to enable interpretation and challenge and to help ensure compliance
  • Being self-motivated with the ability to set challenging personal goals and demonstrate personal energy, drive and determination to achieve them even in the face of pressure or problems, whilst maintaining positive working relationships
  • Flexible mobility to travel to work activity sites within Australia
  • Experience working with a Global organisation (desirable)
  • Knowledge of the safety principles of the management of hazardous activities, for example explosive materials, aviation, manufacturing etc.
