When representatives from the state associations of New South Wales, South Australia, and Victoria created the Australasian Cricket Council in March 1892, it became the country's first national cricket organisation.

Seven years after the Council's dissolution, in 1905, the Australian Board of Control for International Cricket was established. There were two representatives from each of Victoria and New South Wales present at the group's initial meeting. Later that year, a representative from Queensland attended its second conference; in 1906, its constitution was officially changed to permit one representative from Queensland and three representatives from each of New South Wales, South Australia, and Victoria.
