About Company

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) was founded in 1985 and is governed by the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act of 2013.

A Board of Commissioners that the Minister of Sport appoints oversees the ASC.

Increased involvement in organised sport and ongoing international sporting achievement, especially through administration of the Australian Institute of Sport and development of an organised and efficient sports industry. directing and facilitating the development of a unified, cooperative high performance framework that helps Australian athletes consistently win medals at important international competitions

Job Responsibilities

  • . In consultation with team managers, implement the organisational strategic agenda to achieve section and business outcomes.  This includes:
  • Create and design data pathways from athlete through to delivery of processed results to sport scientists, coaches, managers and athletes
  • Design, establish and maintain data systems to facilitate usage by the software and analysis teams
  • Identify and implement monitoring and measurement protocols to ensure infrastructure and software deployed is highly available
  • Design, establish and maintain data systems to facilitate usage by the Australian Sport Network- including National Sport Organisations, National Institute Network and other research partners.
  • Support upskilling of the network to enable use of tools and platforms developed
  • Lead development of data storage, data processing and data retrieval systems
  • Liaise with Sport and State Sport Institutes to encourage collaboration on data services throughout Australia
  • Implement and maintain data governance protocols, data privacy protocols and data security protocols
  • Support and liaise with existing AIS data teams and structures
  • Actively promote and role model the ASC values of Excellence, Integrity, Respect and Teamwork, and contribute to positive organisational change, effective communication, and continuous improvement at the ASC.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a high performing team/organisation, establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with key internal and/or external stakeholders to deliver high quality business outcomes.
  • Assist in the delivery of quality advice and reporting on relevant issues to senior management.

Job Requirement

  • Extensive experience working with and managing data engineering tools such as Airflow, DBT, Snowflake and ETL/ELT software such as Airbyte, Matillion, Hightouch, Atlan, etc
  • Demonstrated experience building and optimising data pipelines, architectures and datasets
  • Experience in small cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
  • Strong analytics skills related to working with unstructured datasets
  • Extensive experience in Python
  • Experience across emerging data engineering and database technologies including cloud infrastructure (Azure or AWS)
  • Experience working with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Gitlab or Azure Devops
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related field such as computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems or information technology
  • Data Analytics system experience – JupyterHub, Tableau, PowerBI, etc.
  • Experience working with video content in data pipelines
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide timely, compelling, and concise advice to inform executive members and senior management to support decision making
  • Sport experience or background
