Principal Software Engineer Job at TERN
Job Responsibilities
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders and TERN’s project team to perform requirement gathering, system design, software development and deployment;
- Develop software and systems in line with defined architectures and established organisational practices;
- Apply reusable software design patterns, write quality code and perform code reviews;
- Build software to high standards including quality, reliability, and scalability;
- Work with cutting edge technologies including Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka, Airflow, Spark and Elasticsearch;
- Work in the OpenStack cloud environment to build, configure and deploy applications as containers;
- Maintain and improve existing codebases and peer review code changes;
- Design and develop web services and restful APIs for data access and delivery;
Job Requirement
- Degree qualification (IT, computer science, software engineering or related field) with at least 8 years work experience in building complex software applications;
- Deep understanding of software design patterns and test-driven development;
- Advanced level knowledge in Python, JavaScript, ReactJS;
- Experience in REST APIs and microservices architecture;
- Hands on expertise in multiple technologies including: Spark, Kafka, Airflow, Kubernetes, Docker and Grafana;
- Hands on technical expertise in different databases including RDBMS, NOSQL and RDF store;
- Ability to use a wide variety of open-source technologies and cloud services (experience with OpenStack is beneficial);
- Experience to develop and automate a complex suite of unit tests, integration tests, and API tests
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a productive team member with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Previous experience developing software for the research sector.
