Dr. Max Diment and a group of like-minded individuals formed IRT, which was previously known as Illawarra Retirement Trust, in 1969. Dr. Diment has a vision to give seniors better housing and care options.

The increased number of elderly patients entering and exiting hospitals alarmed Dr. Diment. not only for medical attention, but also for a secure place to sleep, regular food, and interpersonal contact. He was aware that there had to be an alternative.

IRT started with a committee meeting and a $1,000 gift from a nearby company. On council property that had been donated, our first community was constructed in Wollongong with the help of numerous volunteers and community members.

The revered founder of IRT, Dr. Max Diment, had a dream to build communities where elders may lead the best possible lives. Planning for the first senior living community in the Illawarra began in 1968 after he assembled a committee of like-minded individuals.

The IRT Diment Towers, IRT's first community, was given property on Staff Street by the Wollongong City Council in 1969, and construction was authorised.

IRT was formally incorporated as a business on November 14, 1969. In 1971, IRT Diment Towers opened as the first senior living high rise in Wollongong's central business district, integrating lifestyle living and care services.

Over the following 40 years, IRT continued to expand, and Daisy Street Lodge, our first community on the NSW South Coast, opened its doors in 1975. Our first neighbourhood in Sydney, IRT Peakhurst, debuted in 1992, and our first community in the ACT, IRT Kangara Waters, welcomed its first inhabitants in the middle of 2009. IRT grew into Queensland in 2012.

Job Responsibilities 

• General laundry duties including sorting and bagging of soiled linen, loading and unloading dryers, sorting and folding clean linen and ironing.
• Upkeep of laundry area, including ensuring clean linen and carts are placed in appropriate areas and machinery is switched off at the end of shifts as required.

Job Requirement

• Demonstrated skills and experience working with process work within a laundry or similar area.
• Demonstrated knowledge of infection control guidelines.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently as part of a team, including sound communication skills both verbal and written.
• Demonstrate an understanding of WHS and Manual Handling requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to adhere to the defined standards of ethical and professional conduct consistent with the current NSW Health Code of Conduct and/or relevant professional standards where applicable
